Lancashire Primary School
Lancashire Primary School
When the primary school in Lancashire needed to replace its heating and hot water system, the school required an efficient and reliable system that could be installed with minimal disruption to the community. To meet the school's requirements, two HeatMaster 45 TC EVO condensing boilers were selected to provide the building with a cost-effective and sustainable solution.
The school previously used a conventional gas-fired boiler and an Andrew's water heater to supply heat and hot water to the school building. However, after frequent breakdowns that made the system unreliable, Thompson Building Services was appointed to renew the system during the school's summer vacation.
"The project had to be completed within a tight deadline so that hot water was available upon the students' return at the start of the new school year. ACV was able to meet the short lead times for equipment delivery to meet this deadline," explains Stuart Thompson of Thompson Building Services.
HeatMaster The selected model for the renovation was the HeatMaster combi boiler and water heater with stainless steel heat exchanger technology, which provides heating and hot water from a single combination module with a capacity of up to 121 kW and a continuous flow of 3,402 l/h.
Benefiting from a reliable and efficient solution
Thanks to the tank-in-tank technology, where less hot water is needed to reach the desired outlet temperature when mixed with cold water due to a short recovery time, costs are reduced. Moreover, heat losses are also minimized, as the domestic hot water (DHW) in the inner tank is surrounded by hot primary water, reducing energy waste. This means the school now benefits from a more economical system. Additionally, because the hot water is now stored at higher temperatures, above 60 degrees, lime scale and the risk of legionella are significantly reduced.
The renovation project was completed in five weeks during the school's summer vacation.
Stuart Thompson notes: "The ACV installation is a combined heating and hot water unit, making the installation relatively straightforward within the set time. The products perform as expected, and the system is much more efficient than the previous one. The client is very satisfied with the project."
Thompson Building Services specializes in carrying out commercial M&E installations in the education, retail, and industrial sectors. Established in 1946, the team carries out commercial M&E installations in Preston, Lancashire, and the United Kingdom.
The project was a success, and both students and teachers now benefit from a more reliable and effective heating and hot water system that requires less maintenance and therefore causes less disruption.
